Play Direct UK.com took their unique new product, Imagination Playground, to Romsey Community School for National Playday 2011, which took place on Wednesday 3rd August.
National Playday is a UK national awareness campaign to highlight the importance of play in children’s lives, encouraging thousands of children and their families to get out to play at community events across the UK.
Children from age 2 up to 12 loved it! Despite it being a blistering hot day, they managed to create some magnificent constructions building everything from a house to a car to a robot to a lawnmower. We also saw the most impressive ball run yet!
It was great to be able to be a part of such a fun day!

Play Direct UK.com successfully launch Imagination Playground in the UK
Play Direct UK.com is proud to bring the US phenomenon Imagination Playground to the UK. The UK Launch for Imagination Playground took place on Thursday 5th May 2011 at Sandown Park Racecourse.
Hosted by Mark Hardy, Executive Vice-President of the Playpower Group, the Event was attended by trade press, local authorities, schools and other interested parties, who watched excited school children let their imagination's run wild!
Following the successful trials of Imagination Playground last year which Knowle Park Primary School were a part of, we were very pleased to be able to invite some of the children to join us for this exciting day. The children enthusiastically built everything from a race track to a pirate ship to a throne to a penguin! Following the children's departure, Barry Richards of the Rockwell Group (the US designers of Imagination Playground) spoke about the product from concept to launch and Dr Amanda Gummer, child psychologist, talked to us about the importance of play in a child's development, particularly creative and free play.
One head teacher said "As a teacher, I can see the multi-functional use and it is exciting!" and Dr Gummer said "It is not a 5-minute wonder, the children kept playing and playing".
Everyone left the launch inspired and excited by Imagination Playground, the day had proved to be a great success!

EUROPEAN LAUNCH OF IMAGINATION PLAYGROUND
The official European Launch of Imagination Playground took place at Coram’s Fields, London on Wednesday 17th August, organised by the Rockwell Group, the US designers of the product, and supported by Play Direct UK.com.
David Rockwell, the world-renowned New York based architect and designer, marked the European Launch by hosting a play day at Coram’s Fields to bring to life in Europe his groundbreaking play concept, Imagination Playground.
“The driving force behind Imagination Playground has always been to provide a way to encourage kids to do what they do best – to be creative and to use their imaginations.” said David Rockwell, founder and CEO of Rockwell Group. “The global expansion is so exciting and I hope we can continue to bring Imagination Playground to more and more corners of the world.”
Following a press launch and photoshoot, children and their parents were free to enjoy the Imagination Playground in the lovely park area at Coram’s Fields. Assisted by psychologist Dr Amanda Gummer, David also took part in a Q&A session with parents to talk about the importance of creative play in a child’s development. The kit was left at the park for three days to complete the event.
As a thank you to Coram’s Fields, David Rockwell has donated an Imagination Playground to them so that the thousands of children who visit each year will be able to experience some of the magic of his New York Imagination Playground.
“We had a fabulous response to the kit over the days it was out, adults and children thoroughly enjoyed playing with it and I saw so many different combinations of blocks, structures and ideas that I was amazed by the creativity it inspired.
